Letters From Tonia

Have a Wonderful Thanksgiving!

Hello Bethany Family,

Let me begin by saying thank you for participating in our Awards Chapel and Color Run this past Friday. There were so many visitors and volunteers, not to mention the children had a fun time, but we are not done yet. This week is the last week to finish the good work of raising money for our school. Monday, November 13th is the last day to bring in your donation of any amount. My PTF team and I are grateful no matter how large or how small.

Parent/Teacher Conferences are this week. The partnership between parent and staff is vital to the success of every student and sets the tone for the year. This key ingredient will propel our students to excel academically, socially, and spiritually. I trust to have every parent on campus this week.

Did you know there are over 85 public and private schools in the city of Long Beach? Over 70,000 students! We have all been affected with school congestion at peak morning drop off times, and Bethany is no different. To help alleviate some of the congestion, beginning Monday, November 13th, K-8 families are able to drop off students beginning at 7:45am without incurring daycare fees. So what does this mean? Daycare charges are now from 6:30-7:45am. Parents, I see the need and I am trusting the option of arriving earlier will make a difference. Thank you for your patience and a big thank you to Megan Koet and her team as she continues to keep the children safe.

Grandparents/Veterans Day Chapel is this Thursday, November 9th. Beginning at 8am our PTF will honor these very important people. PTF will provide light snacks and photo opportunities on the elementary playground. At 8:45am we will head over to Chapel for a delightful time celebrating the wisdom of our Grandparents and the heroic efforts of our military. Please contact Mrs. Nicole Cecil (nicolececil@bethany-school.org) if you would like to volunteer on this most special day. All are welcome.

School will be closed in honor of Veterans Day Friday, November 10th, 2023. Middle school students and staff will take a trip to Dinuba, California and participate in Gleanings For The Hungry. Students are able to support missionaries all over the world. The impact of our students while volunteering at Gleanings is far reaching and models Jesus’ life of servitude. Please commit to prayer for our students and staff November 12th through 16th.

Preschool had their first field trip to Irvine Regional Park last month and had a fun safe time. Now they are preparing for their annual Thanksgiving program Friday, November 17th at 10:00am. Our little Bulldogs will take to the stage in costumes and give their rendition of what Thanksgiving means to them. It is definitely not about the turkey. Everyone is welcome to join us. What a great way to begin your Thanksgiving holiday.

Speaking of Thanksgiving, school will be closed Friday, November 17th to November 24th. Friday is a minimal day with a noon dismissal schoolwide and there is no daycare. Additionally, daycare is also closed during the break.

Every year Bethany School partners with the Long Beach Rescue Mission to provide food for the holidays to those less fortunate. The week of November 13th – 16th you are able to bring your donation into the school office. On Friday, November 17th we will have a one day ‘drive through’ allowing you to bring and drop off your food donations from 6:30am to 12 noon. Please find Mrs. Edna Beck in the church parking lot to help you unload your vehicle. Let’s do our small part to make a big difference in the lives of those less fortunate.

With Christmas just around the corner, Bethany Church and School are collecting toys for the Department of Children and Family Services. If you would like to participate, please bring a new, unwrapped toy to the church or school office by December 7th by 12 noon.

Parents I am getting ahead of myself, but there are great opportunities ahead for our Bulldogs to shine. In 2024, Bethany will again host the Spelling Bee. Last year, Santa Fe Springs Christian joined us. This year, we are slated to have three other private Christian schools join our campus and we will shine! In addition to the Spelling Bee, Bethany will travel to participate in the Math Olympics, Speech Meet, and Arts Festival at the other participating school campuses. Detailed information is coming soon.

Every student matters. I encourage every student to grow in the Fruit of the Spirit and become the best version of themselves. Bethany School is a safe place for this to happen. Each day as I prepare for work I look forward to seeing how God will use me to help make a difference with the students and I love it. Although some days are more challenging than others, I am committed.

Blessings on your family and have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Tonia Hill
Principal
