Letters From Tonia

Color Run, Conferences, and More!

Hello Bethany Families,

I am glad you have made Bethany School your school of choice. We are a Future Focused campus and your child matters to me. Will I push for your child to succeed academically, socially and spiritually, yes! Will I push to have your child meet his/her potential, yes! Will I require you to partner with me in your child’s best interest, yes! Most importantly, will I love every student to let them know they matter? YES! Your child has a calling on his/her life and it is my job, and that of my staff, to do our best and help each student grow.

We have gotten off to a great start and I want to give a hearty, “Thank you”, to Mrs. Amber Francis and Ms. Megan Calhoun for their supervision over the 2023-2024 Student Council election. Congratulations to every student who participated and to all the winners. There will be opportunities to support Student Council during the school year as they fundraise in preparation for the Walt Disney Leadership Conference and other events.

It’s that time of year, Color Run! The Color Run is our annual fundraiser where we raise money for our school academically, aesthetically, and student services. Mrs. Nicole Cecil is serving her second term as PTF president and she is doing an amazing job. Monies raised this year will go towards the following;
 Revamping the preschool playground with a new play structure, updated compliant rubber
protectant beneath the structure, new preschool classroom doors, and enrichment supplies
 New school phone system
 New K-8 lunch covers
 New K-8 outdoor canopies for daycare and daycare supplies
 Preschool through 8th grade student services
 …and more

Speaking of the Color Run there are great prizes for every student and classroom as they bring in money for our school (Preschool and K-8). This year our goal is to raise $76,000.00 in honor of Bethany’s 76th year of Christian education in the Long Beach community. The goal is for every student to individually raise $300.00; however, I just ask that you do your best. We will all benefit from everyone’s efforts, will you join us? Don’t forget, corporate donations are accepted and due by October 20th.

This year’s Color Run is Friday, November 3rd from 8 – 12:30pm. The entire school will close at 1pm and there is no daycare. We will begin the day with a special school wide student body awards chapel at 8:30am in the church and end with lunch. Everyone is invited to attend. Again, the day will end at 1pm.

Fall is here and we have fun events for the remainder of the month. Second and third graders will visit Tanaka Farms and preschool will take their annual trip to Irvine Regional Park. October 31st is the Fall Festival for K-8. Students will be able to wear a fall costume to school, no blood or gore please. There will be bounce houses, obstacle courses, games, a fall trail mix line, and we will end the event with a massive musical chairs contest. The Festival will take place from 1:00 – 3pm. Daycare will begin at 3:30pm for K-8 and preschool will continue with their regular schedule.

The Los Angeles Clippers have partnered with Bethany School again this year and we have some pretty cool games to attend. The first game is Wednesday, October 25th against the Portland Trail Blazers and we have a few tickets left. The next game is in December when the Clippers will take on the WARRIORS!

Parent/Teacher Conferences are coming soon. You will have an opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher and hear about their progress to date. Preschool, please see your child’s teacher and sign up on campus. K-8, you are able to sign up online. (K-5 and Middle School)

Friday chapels have been quite engaging and fun. What a blessing it has been to have Pastor Dave Darjany of Bethany Church join the praise and worship team. Learning God’s word helps us to be our best selves – students and staff. Parents start your weekend off right and join us.

Parents when dropping your child off at school, PLEASE SLOW DOWN. Allow enough time to drop off by 8am. An extra five or ten minutes will make a difference. Bethany School is a closed campus, moving forward all gates will be locked at 8:20am, and you will have to be buzzed in through the main office. Safety is important!

It’s a great month to be a Bulldog!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Tonia Hill
Principal

HOMELESSNESS: Homelessness is rampant in Southern California and we see it increasing in Long Beach. Bethany School has partnered our connections with Long Beach Police Department to keep our campus safe during hours of operations. Every morning the facility maintenance department drives the perimeter of the school and church and when necessary, a call is made to remove trespassers. We are a locked campus and my staff and I are doing our part.
